These Are the Top Women’s Travel Trends This Year

This year, women’s travel trends have been reflecting an increased desire for meaningful experiences, authentic connection with local communities and cultures, and a focus on wellness and personal growth. Whether it’s a solo adventure to Buenos Aires, a family vacation in the Caribbean, or a volunteer trip in Thailand — more and more women are seeking out travel experiences that focus on experiential travel and responsible tourism. As the travel industry begins to find its footing in a post-pandemic world, these are the top women’s travel trends we’re seeing this year.

1. Wellness and Mindfulness Travel

Following a global pandemic and often cramped work from home arrangements, it’s no wonder women are seeking some peace. One of the big travel trends we’re seeing this year is how women are prioritizing their mental and physical health by taking meditation and yoga retreats. Wellness and mindfulness travel is a popular women’s travel trend this year, with women seeking destinations and experiences that promote relaxation and rejuvenation.

2. Sustainable Travel Continues to Rise

Sustainable tourism has been on the rise for a few years now, and this trend is only set to grow post-pandemic. When travel came to a halt, we saw firsthand how popular tourism destinations suddenly rebounded. The Venice canals were clear for the first time in decades, and the smog above Los Angeles dissipated, leaving us all with one clear takeaway: we need to take better care of our planet, like now. This year, a big women’s travel trend is seeking out eco-friendly accommodations and tours that prioritize sustainability and responsible tourism practices.

3. Solo Travel Is Here To Stay

We always hear that solo travel is a “big deal” for women, and that’s because it is! The solo travel trend is hardly a trend now so much as it’s a fact: women love to solo travel for the freedom, empowerment, and transformation that it can bring. This year, solo female travelers are just continuing to go out in full force, exploring destinations across the globe, from the beaches of Thailand to the streets of Paris.

4. Cultural Immersion

Travelers are increasingly seeking out authentic cultural experiences that allow them to connect with local communities and traditions in a meaningful way. From cooking classes in Italy to homestays in Morocco, women are embracing cultural immersion as a way to broaden their horizons and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them.

5. Seeking Adventure Travel

For many women, travel is an opportunity to push their limits and try new things. In 2023, adventure travel will continue to be a popular trend, with women seeking out experiences such as hiking the Inca Trail in Peru, kayaking in New Zealand, and surfing in Bali.

6. In Busy Times, Slow Travel Becomes More Popular

Slow travel, or taking the time to fully immerse oneself in a destination, is a trend that’s gaining momentum in the travel world. Instead of rushing from one tourist site to the next, women are opting for longer stays in a destination, allowing them to connect more deeply with the local culture and community. This trend also tends to go hand-in-hand with sustainable travel since slower travel and more time in one destination can mean less flights.

7. Putting Away the Phone for a Digital Detox

With the constant barrage of information and connectivity, many women are craving the opportunity to disconnect and unplug. Digital detox retreats and destinations, where travelers can escape from the digital world and connect with nature and each other, are expected to be popular this year.

8. Connecting to Our Heritage Through Multigenerational Travel

As families become more dispersed, multigenerational travel is on the rise. Grandparents, parents, and children are coming together to explore new destinations and make memories that will last a lifetime. Popular multigenerational travel activities include taking a family cruise, renting a villa or a vacation home, or embarking on a group tour.

9. Voluntourism

Voluntourism, or traveling with the purpose of giving back to the local community, is a trend that’s gaining traction among women travelers. Whether it’s volunteering at a local school or helping to build a community center, women are seeking out opportunities to make a positive impact while traveling.

10. Less Is More With Microcations

Microcations, or shorter trips that allow travelers to recharge and explore without taking too much time off work or other commitments are becoming increasingly popular. Women are taking advantage of long weekends and other short breaks to explore nearby destinations, reconnect with friends, and try new experiences.
